Evans this low is hysterical.

He did clear waivers, he hit only 2 xbhs and he had a high babip, and it's hard to read anything off a 38 pa sample size.

I don't see anything about Evans that screams top 20. I might have him around 25.

I've always loved a good underdog story. Go Mets (2018). I know an underdog when I see one and oh-boy, this team is full blown Vegas 50 to 1 long-shot.

I based it on 2016 and the latter half of 2017. He had a hard time early-on at AAA and saved his season by going strong in the later games. Otherwise, I just don't know. There IS something about him that is intruiging. Perhaps it is just hope. I constantly root for the underdog...TJR is my "hero!"
I AM glad that Evans will be at Las Vegas in 2018, unless he is claimed in Rule V.

The entire league decided he wasn’t worth a 40 man roster spot at age 24.

You can likely say similar things about others on the list but that certainly gives you an idea on what people paid to do these things think of Evans’ future.

Again, as if my rating on this had anything at all to do with his waiver status. Obviously it doesn't. It's based on my view of his potential as a player. We saw the same dismissals of 28 yo TJR, a guy who has less secondary skill value.

I think it's a good bet the entire league would pass on a roster spot for anyone we have in the 16-20 range as well.

Exactly. Not going to find a lot of studs in that range, especially in the Mets farm system which is probably bottom 5.

With that said, that's why these lists get ridiculous beyond 20. You could pretty much put 50 names in a hat and draw 30 to round of the Top 50. To debate is a real waste of time.

Agreed, albeit there are multiple factors that go into that - development/projection remaining, where they are in system (such that how many "dead" years will they clog up on your 40 man), position, etc.

25 year old (I actually understated his age before) Phil Evans is a finished product at this point.

BUT - my real point was simply responding to the comment that it was "hysterical" we had Evans "this low." I don't think ranking somebody 21st in a system that we basically offered to the entire league - for free - and everyone said "Nah" can be realistically labeled "hysterical."

You may have differing feelings on the near term value of Phil Evans, but that would make you the outlier, not only apparently among the board members here, but those decision makers around baseball.

I would have the same retort if someone had indignation that any of the guys in the ranks you mentioned were ranked "that low", fwiw. We just have definitive market evidence on Evans that we don't on the others which makes it easier to back an opinion.

It was never meant to be this deep. I just think he should be much higher than this (in what is a weak system). He was already sliding before he cleared waivers for whatever justifications people told themselves. Now he's an afterthought.

But judging by his removal from the 40, he could struggle to get another opportunity this season, and it's all about opportunity. So it'll prob just be a fluky thing for him one way or the other - either he will or won't luck into that opportunity bc it doesn't appear that he's a front burner player for them at the moment.

Does anyone else show Callahan leading Drew Smith in this voting?

Not really sure what happened here but Bautista and Evans were the leaders and Bautista won head to head.

I could personally care less about Bautista, Evans OR Callahan so it's not like I'm randomly looking to rig this (not that you suggested that).
