Given Delgado is now having a more productive year than Beltran the HOF talk is a bit premature given the general consensus is that Delgado is in decline.

Whether Beltran is a Hall of Famer is premature in the sense that he's a 31-year old player with at least a few more years in the league ahead of him. But it's not premature to discuss, given what he has done so far, what he would have to do for the rest of his career to merit serious consideration.
How Delgado is doing this season really has nothing to do with this discussion.

What Beltran has done so far leaves him far short of the HOF.
He has a career OPS + of 116, but if you like dreaming, fine, have at it, you can even talk about Endy's HOF chances too I guess, by comparison, Chipper's OPS+ is 145.

Yes. We know. He hasn't played long enough. We've gone over this several times already in this thread.

There are other Hall of Famers with comparable OPS+ who made it because of longevity. Some players have even had their OPS+ go up after the age of 31.

Dreaming? Laying it on a little thick there, don't you think?
I understand that you hate Beltran, but do you really need to spew your bile in every thread about him?

Yeah, because a four-time All Star centerfielder with 250 HR and nearly 1000 RBI is comparable to a defensive specialist fourth outfielder with 17 HR and 176 RBI.

Chipper Jones's OPS+ is comparable to Mike Schmidt and Eddie Mathews, both HoF 3B. What's your point?

No he hasn't played at a high enough level and his performance is slipping.

Yeah, some players, but that's for dreamers.

Not when you start posting that some layers OPS+ goes up as they leave their prime. Personally, I would start talking HOF when he starts playing like a HOF'er

Ah, so by discussion you meant cheerleading. ROFL, saying Beltran isn't a HOF calibre player is spilling bile? I wonder what you would term the treatment Delgado and Santana have gotten.

Hey, some guys have their OPS+ go up after 31.

Yeah, some players, but that's for dreamers.
Robin Yount, Ernie Banks, Cal Ripken, Paul Molitor, Willie Keeler, Sam Rice, George Sisler, Tony Perez... all players whose career OPS+ are close to Beltran's.
Paul Molitor's OPS+ was 118 at 30, 122 when he retired.
Roberto Clemente: 115 at 30, 130 when he retired.
Robin Yount: 114 at 30, 115 when he retired.
Willie Stargell: 136 at 30, 147 when he retired.
Al Kaline: 133 at 30, 134 when he retired.
Mike Schmidt: 144 at 30, 147 when he retired.
Chipper Jones: 142 at 30, currently 145 at age 36.
Gary Sheffield: 140 at age 30, 142 at age 39.
Jim Thome: 147 at age 30, 149 at age 37.
Jeff Kent: 112 at age 30, 122 at age 40.
Jim Edmonds: 124 at age 30, 132 at age 38.
And again, it won't matter what Beltran's final OPS+ is if he puts up several more 25-30 HR and 100 RBI seasons.
You call me a dreamer? You're the one comparing him to a 30 year old backup outfielder with a career OPS+ of 75.
he's not getting anywhere near 500hr's (he'd have to average 30+ for the next 8 years). 500hr's is no longer a guarantee of anything anyway.
beltran is a very good player and i'm glad to have him on the mets, but with the numbers he has at the age he's at i'd say his chances are exceedingly slim.

I will send this to him so he can quote it in his induction speech!
