He's gonna "breakout" in 2010, whatever that means. His Isos were great in 2009, so to me, he's already broken out. _________________ HOW DARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEE YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!
Havens' progress at the plate and his transition to 2nd base have me giddy...
In Havens (2B), Thole (C) and Davis (1B), the Mets potentially have 3 above average position players that should be here in mid-late 2010 or early 2011... _________________ My Mets blog will be updated regularly over the course of the offseason. Check it out:

How far away is Havens?
Great plate discipline and very good bat speed, with a pretty compact stroke. All reasons the bat should move quickly (and why it's no huge surprise he's hitting here with no experience at AA). Really, some of the same reasons I was confident Murphy or Thole would hit at higher levels as far as an advanced approach and short swing, but with better bat speed than either of those guys. Basically, Murphy might have as much natural power, but Havens is more aggressive in really looking for a ball to drive.
He almost reminds me of David Wright when he came through as far as the plate discipline and quick bat, but not as much power as that. He's very dangerous down and in, where he was able to lay off breaking balls other guys at this level chase, and crush anything left in the zone. Apparently he had a habit of dropping his hands too low early and was vulnerable up, which Toby Hyde says he has been working recently on correcting in the AFL by starting his hands higher.
While the above describes Havens at his best, he also had stretches where his timing seemed to be off and he didn't look like the same guy. When he's locked in though, he is pretty impressive. I used to think he projected as something like Khalil Greene, but at this point I think that's too pessimistic. He'll have the 15+ HR power, but will also have a decent OBP. Maybe more like Stephen Drew.
IMO, Havens has the best upside potential of any Met Prospect
When you're a middle infielder prospect with his power and OBP potential ... he has the best shot at making multiple allstar appearances over the course of his career than any current Met prospect

Least he got an out. Saul Rivera gave up 4 runs without getting one.
BTW - is Rivera still Nats property? He might be a good gamble to take. _________________ HOW DARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEE YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!
