D'Antoni's only good with handling superstar players...he doesnt make guys like David Lee accountable on their defense. Lee to his credit improved in offensive areas, but offense was never his problem.

D'Antoni's lack of creativity in drawing up plays is disturbing...how many times do we need to see Chris Duhon take a decisive shot at the buzzer. He may charm his way after every loss to the media, but to the discerning eye the coach's inability to shape up the bad habits on this team has seriously cost them early in the season when they still had a chance.

I only bring this up because the previous coach had the same problem with plays- you had Jamal Crawford dribble out to the last second then chuck up a shot. The dumb, listless basketball the last 9 years has been painful.

D'Antoni this season had

A PF playing center in David Lee

A bunch of players in the 2-3-4 spots that didn't really distinguish themselves.

Chris Duhon at point.

Plus a mandate to build for the future and make a run at the playoffs.

I'd say he's done a decent job.

I like letting players be creative. I don't know how much a coach can light a fire under people to want to make that shot and get open to have that opportunity. Mostly Knicks players simply don't want that. On offense, they stand around. And on inbound plays they go for the easy open man.

Watching Sergio, House and McGrady is completely different. They actually drive, put themselves out there to make that shot and get themselves in a position to take it. Really have no idea how much a coach can change these things. For the Knicks as a whole, might have something to do with being on a team that everyone talks about as only really starting to compete next year.
