Lou is a G-dang genius. There is no better GM in professional sports and he proved that today. For the last few weeks, and with the deadline coming up quickly, we all thought we would have to say goodbye to (insert Devil here - Rafalski, Madden, Brylin, Gionta, Gomez). I'm sure we all were, and still are, hoping that Mogilny's injury will help the cap problem. But nobody could honestly say that they knew Lou would find someone to take Malakhov off our hands.

Korolyuk is a good player however he makes more money in Russia and seems intent to stay there. Maybe Brylin can help entice him to come over to the NHL who knows.

Plus with the money now freed up with the trade there is a rumor that Gio signed for 3.6 million and Martin 1.5 million, however no confirmation as of yet.

I hate to have to give up a 1st round pick, but this was probably the best route to take. It'll amount to a late-round pick for the ability to sign Gionta before the start of the season. So, its a good move. I never had a doubt Lou would find a way to get everyone under contract without subtracting major pieces, but I didn't see this one coming.

Well done, Lou.

Supposedly, it is a first rounder in 2007 if the Sharks make the playoffs or a first rounder in 2008 if they miss it.

The Devils rarely draft anywhere under the 20th draft position anyways. Also, with the trackrecord the Devils scouts have of being quite successful they will find there first rounder in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

With the possiblity of Zajac making the big club as the second line center and Parise entering his sophmore season we have more gotten then we could have asked for from our recent first rounders. I think we will be fine. In Lou we trsut.
