Former New York Knicks shooting guard Allan Houston is the front-runner to be the team's next general manager under team president Donnie Walsh, according to league sources.
Walsh would neither confirm nor deny Houston's status. "He is working with me to learn the position of GM, whether with the Knicks or elsewhere," Walsh said. "I feel Allan has the tools to be a great GM."
Sources said both owner James Dolan and coach Mike D'Antoni are comfortable with Houston, who is currently listed as the team's special assistant to the president.
I always hated that guy.
You want to teach someone how to shoot a jump shot, just show videos of Allan Houston. His problem was he was a complimentary piece not a front line player but the Knicks signed him to be an alpha dog, so I can understand the hate.

Isiah Hired By Knicks As Consultant
Isiah Thomas has been hired as a consultant by the Knicks, giving the team's former president and head coach an official role with the organization.
Thomas' position will be in a part-time capacity and he will remain head coach at Florida International.
Thomas played a role in helping the Knicks with free-agent recruitment this summer.
"I’m excited to once again be a part of the New York Knicks organization. I was honored to have been asked to help during the recent free-agent recruiting process, and believe that this new role takes full advantage of my skill set as an evaluator of basketball talent," Thomas said in a statement released by the Knicks.
"While I will of course continue in my role as FIU’s coach," continued the statement, "I look forward to working with Donnie (Walsh), Coach (Mike) D’Antoni and all of the Knicks staff to help bring a championship back to New York."
The Knicks' statement indicates that Thomas "will assist the team’s senior management in various capacities, including player recruitment."
Who the hell cares? He has an eye for talent, he helped out the Knicks in recruiting players... why not pay the guy back a little and actually hire him? not like he's gm or anything.
