Oskar Blues does everything in cans too. At first, I was a little what the? about it but once I tried the actual beer I moved on. Now, I see a bunch of microbrewers have gone that route. Even breweries that do bottles are canning some select styles.

I had a Delirium Tremens the other night at a pub, tulip glass and everything. Then I had a Duvel, which I really enjoy as well. But as I was drinking the Duvel I was wishing I had gotten another Delirium Tremens instead.


I have had a couple of the CENSORED and enjoyed them. FreshDirect used to have a microbrew variety pack that always included a few Lagunitas, including the IPA, CENSORED, and PILS. Unfortunately they stopped selling it and I haven't had any in awhile.

Hard to name a particular style, but I love big beers. DIPAs and Imperial Stouts. All time favorites in those categories are probably New England Brewing's Ghandi-Bot and Founder's Canadian Breakfast Stout. Founders CBS on draft is absolutely mind boggling.

Really enjoy me some Belgians too. Everything from Saison to Strong Ales. Lately been getting to enjoy Sours a lot as well. Couple weeks ago had a 2005 Cantillon Lou Pepe Kriek, hard to not enjoy the style after you've had that.

Someone brought up Allagash, definitely in my top 3 favorite breweries, never had anything I didn't love from them. As far as Oskar Blues go I find them really hit or miss. Gordon and Ten Fidy are great but Gubna and Little Yella Pils I can barely even finish a can off.

I have been meaning to check out some sours. I had a sip of one when the Beer Festival was in town last August and really liked the aftertaste a lot but that is as far as my experience with them goes. I'd like to change that.

I never had the Gubna or Little Pils from Oskar Blues but I like everything from them that I have tried: Old Chubb, Ten Fidy, Dale's Pale Ale, and Gordons (though not all that into this one due to the hops).

I'd try Monk's Cafe or Rodenbach Grand Cru. Really good starting points. Ommegang makes a good one too called Zuur.

I thought I heard somewhere that Monks wasn't that great? Maybe not. I know my local liquor store carries it though. Not the Allegash sour though.

I'll probably check out the New Belgium sour, La Folie, as my favorite local beer bar has that one on tap and I think that is the one I tried during the Great American Beer Festival week. However, the liquor store does not carry this one so if my need for a sour hits in prior to getting to the bar I'll probably go with the Monks.

Currently drinking some Oatmeal Stout from Breckenridge Brewery (local). Had it for the first time the other night when I went out and was surprised at how much I liked it, I didn't expect Breck. Brewery to be able to pull a Stout off as well as they did. It isn't the most special beer in the world or anything close to it but its definitely good. I'd give it a B.

I get my case of Bell's Brewing 'Hopslam' this weekend.
And Troeg's 'Nugget Nectar' should be in my area soon. I will be grabbing a case of that.

Southern Tier in Western NY is churning out some great beer lately, the best of which they sell in 22's. Their imperial chocolate stout is like drinking a Hershey bar.

I have to give a shout out to Ithaca Beers, obviously. Flower Power is a top, top IPA, Cazcazilla is a very hoppy amber, and they won 1st place at the GABF for their sour ale, Brut. This year, their 13 anniversary beer (sold in a wine bottle) is a hopped up unfiltered wheat, and it's EXCEPTIONAL.

Yeah, some of those brewers that go the can route go out of their way to mention how the beers better off in cans due to the sunlight being blocked out.

I personally prefer bottles over cans. I like the packaging more and I enjoy drinking out of a bottle more than a beer glass or can. That said, end decision always comes down to the actual beer so as long as the beers good that's where I am going.

I got 2 cans of the Gubna Imperial IPA, 10% ABV for the game last night. It was smooth and drinkable. A very good beer. But $3.75/can is a little steep.

Never tried Gubna.

Currently enjoying some Dales Pale Ale from Oskar Blues though.

Trying the Monk's Cafe Flemish Sour Ale tonight. Interesting for sure but not sure it'll be a regular in my routine. Thanks for the recommendation.
