Mel Kiper had Wilkerson going #17 to New England with this summary-

I have 3-4 defensive end among the top three needs for the Patriots and this is precisely the kind of value pick the Patriots are known for. Wilkerson is a player who I don't think would escape the top-10 picks if he stuck around Temple for another year, but he simply dominated the competition in 2010 and is ready for this shot. He fits in well as a 3-4 defensive end and can really create havoc

Also, Kiper had him #10 on his final big board.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

I like the Giants taking a CB. You can never have enough CB depth, especially with how so many teams spread you out. Plus, Ross and TT are free agents after this upcoming year, so getting another was a good move.

Consider that Deon Grant had to play nickel and Perry Fewell is a big believer in a strong secondary, I really think the need for this pick was sorely underestimated by the 'They must get an O-Lineman' people who, while not as belligerent or tone-deaf as the LB shippers, had tunnel vision on that pick.

I was surprised with the Falcons trading all those picks for Julio Jones. Him and Roddy can be a very nice tandem.

On the other hand, you have the Patriots. I understand they like stock-piling picks but it's not like they are a bad team that is rebuilding and wants extra picks. Would they have been better off taking Ingram or one of the DE's at #28?

Jimmy Smith was taken and goodness has there ever been a question mark. I am putting money on John Harbaugh asking his brother about him.

Three WR's were taken. Green, Jones, and Baldwin.

I like the Jets pick. Filled a need and took a good player.

Totally biased here as a BC grad, but I'd love to see the Jets grab Herzlich with one of their next 2 picks.

In 2008, there was no better OLB in the country. His numbers are a bit misleading because BC plays a bend-don't-break defense and almost never rushes linebackers off the edge in passing downs, preferring to drop them into coverage and send the occassional CB (but mostly try to get pressure with 4). And Herzlich excels in pass coverage.

That was a brainfart on my part. The talent pool after Green and Jones is pretty slim pickings.

If anybody is still confused by the whole Ravens-Chiefs order of pick situation that occurred last night, here is an interesting twist going on. The Ravens are upset at the Bears for reneging a deal in place that caused them to lose pick position:
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... rom-bears/

A lot of Giants fans want these names for Day 2:
Stefan Wisniewski
Stephen Paea
Bruce Carter
Akeem Ayers
Marvin Austin
Ben Ijalana

Of the players listed in terms of need and availability, Ijalana and/or Wisniewski are the guys I want.

Anyone have a good "best available" list? Bills could take a chance on Bowers.

Kiper was saying how the Pats did that a few years ago and because of that they lost out on having Clay Matthews to draft. Given their RB situation, this could backfire on them as well.

Rumors that the Bengals were talking to the Packers to trade up to 32 to get Dalton. Either they stand pat and pray that the Pats make no deals with that pick or the Bills are not interesting in Dalton or the Bengals make a deal with the Pats.

Some predictions:
I could the Pats getting Ayers or trading down. Brooks Reed could also be in play.

Do not see the Bills going with another D-Lineman. Ayers or Carter- possibly.
Bengals get Dalton and if not, I think they will think long and hard about the other QBs be it Mallett or Kaepernick. They could use their position to trade down.

Broncos take Kyle Rudolph. I would be shocked if they went in a different direction. Terrible mistake dumping Sheffler.

Cleveland takes Bowers. I feel like Cleveland is going to be really creative on Day 2.

Arizona could be interesting. Could take Mallett or they could take a Justin Houston or a Brooks Reed.

Titans take Titus Young or Torrie Smith. I just feel like they want to make certain that Locker has all the toys (Chris Johnson and Kenny Britt aside).

Cowboys take Christian Ballard, a five-technique guy.

Redskins could be looking at Mallett or Kaepernick with their pick. Or they could be incredibly ordinary like their Kerrigan pick.

Houston takes Aaron Williams or Brandon Harris. Either way, they need to stay defensive-minded this whole draft or heads will roll.
