John Church, a reliever/starting pitcher for the University of West Florida baseball team has been named by Daktronics to the All-South Region Second Team. Church has been the backbone of the West Florida pitching staff which has compiled a 3.96 team ERA, second lowest amongst Gulf South Conference teams.
Church began the year in the bullpen, compiling a 6-3 record and was leading the team in innings pitched at one point in the season. I was not until the final two weeks of the season when Church took the hill for his first start in an Argonaut uniform. As a starter he marked a 2-0 record in three appearances to end the season with an 8-3 record.
He leads the Argos in almost every pitching category and also is one of the top hurlers in several categories throughout the GSC. In 75.1 innings he has notched eight wins on 21 appearances with 92 strikeouts while holding the opponents to just a .211 batting average against him, all of which leads the team. His 1.55 ERA not only leads the team but it is also the lowest in the GSC. He represents the Argos as the lone member on this season's 2009 Daktonics All-South Region Second Team.

John Church at the University of West Florida led the Argos with a 1.55 ERA this season and can expect to see his name called today or Thursday. He should be chosen somewhere from rounds 15 through 25. Tate High grad and University of South Alabama catcher David Doss also could hear his name called today.

Church said he throws 88-93 with a good slider and a changeup that needs work, he compared himself on the mound to Clemens lol and said he 100% is signing
