Trading Murph away right now reminds me of when we traded FOR Mike Bordick in 2000. That guy was having a ridiculously good half season when we got him, and of course the law of averages kicked in and he stunk. Murph has proven himself capable of hitting .300 with a .350 OBP and doubles power - I think we should let him get hot again before trading him away so he can have a hot second half for someone else.
Our problem isn't offense anyway - the only way I trade Murph is if I get a really good setup guy back in the deal.

He's the best option right now, and looks like the best option for the next few years unless Valdespin develops some discipline or Havens starts performing. There are so few good/great 2B, it's hard to imagine a FA or trade acquisition will bring much more than a marginal upgrade and certainly cost a lot more.

Bill Maher is worth "only" about 30 million. He was simply a figure head of a group that bought one share. Bill Maher doesn't have "help the mets payroll" money.

Not true. I'd like to see us maximize his value
...he is not going to be a Met in 2013 unless Sandy fails to fill 2B again...remember that Sandy was not sold on Murphy in the off-season. That said, if they completely stand pat, I am okay with that decision. I can respect going coast to coast with off-season roster construction.
What I don't want is short-sighted purchases at the expense of the future.

Finding an upgrade at 2B is going to be harder than you might think, it wouldn't be a "failure" by Sandy. It certainly won't come thru free agency.

I agree 100% with this! Murphy is the best option the Mets have for the next few years. Valdespin needs to improve his walk rate and his defense. Also, he needs to grow up some.
