Have you lost your mind? Harvey in the bullpen. That is crazy talk. Back to your first point. Yes, I do believe Murphy can be a good starting 2nd baseman. Murphy still needs to improve his defense. The same way you question me about Murphy I can say the same thing about Havens. Havens has proven nothing. He can't even hit his way out of AA and you are already giving him the 2nd base job next season.

Please show me where I gave him the second base next season. Good luck.
The list isn't top starting pitchers who spent some time in the pen when they first came up is very, very long. Most notably, the Rays have made this standard operating procedure for their top young pitchers. Given Harvey's innings limit, if he were truly ready it would be the best option out there. As it is, he's still not pitching deep into games and, though he's been good all season, has had one very good month.

Your are obviously implying you want Havens to be the 2nd baseman next year. Am I wrong? You see the Mets needing to upgrade at 2nd. i don't. I think Duda defense is becoming a big problem. Much bigger then Murphy's. Also, I think the Mets should look for another starting catcher. Thole and Nickeas are not getting it done in my opinion.

You are wrong, and no where have I said that. All I said (repeatedly, if you'd bothered to read my posts), is that it doesn't make sense to say that Havens won't be in the majors until September of '13. I explained why this didn't make sense, yet you responded with an ad hom (again). I'm by no means convinced that Havens will even be Murphy's equal, and nowhere have I said that he would be an upgrade (again: show me where I said he would be).
I think the Mets may need to address all three of those positions, as none of them have been particularly productive this year. Though Duda really shouldn't be playing the outfield, I don't know if the Mets can really do without his bat; in any case, it would depend entirely on who he was replaced by (ditto for the others). I don't think any of those three are guys who you're ever going to stop attempting to upgrade from, and, once again, please find where I said otherwise. I've been saying we can probably only have Ike or Duda, not both, for awhile now.

Believe me I have read your posts. You have fought with me on every point I try to make. It started at the beginning of this read with resigning Dickey. If Havens is not better or an equal to Murphy I can see the Mets trading for help in other areas. I think the Mets are very happy with Murphy overall. Like I have said before, Murphy still needs to improve to become a solid 2nd baseman.

Yea! Finally someone here defending murphy other than me.
northway only said if Harvey was ready now the Mets would have used him in this current, especially given its current state. I disagree because that is not really a good idea in his development but in no way do I think this is wat northway was advocating or believed to be Harvey's real calling in the organization. Carry on.

As it stands I agree, but if Harvey was going absolutely unchallenged in the IL (unquestionably ready, in other words), I don't think it would mess with his development to put him in the bullpen for a couple months. That said, looking at his innings, you might be right, as I didn't realize he'd thrown that many last year; putting him in the pen would really be a drag on building his innings count. Regardless, you are correct (and thank you): by no means was I saying that Harvey's future is in the pen, something I thought was quite clear.

Harvey probably has enough innings in his pocket to start the entire year without being shut down but a Sept. callup with him in the pen wouldn't shock me. Wheeler probably gets shut down before the end of the year. Threw 115 last year meaning 135-140 or so is probably his max

Maybe I am biased, but Harvey is either a SP or nothing. In no way can I see him as a RP.
And while Tej despises the mets using Mejia as a RP, I would completely despise the idea of Harvey as a RP. Thankfully it was just a suggestion or a thought. If the mets actually had aspirations of such, that would be a different story. I may end up calling an NYFS poster to bail me out of prison if the mets brought that up.
I'd call a family member but they wouldnt understand what being a fan is all about.

Looking at his innings again, Harvey is basically good to go with a rotation spot next year, no innings concerns, if he stays on his current trajectory.
