If you bring in a free agent corner outfielder, I think you put Duda at first, since MDD is likely to have a platoon role in center next year.

Kirk/MDD/Ichiro would be some mighty fine defense, and Duda really belongs more at first than the outfield (assuming Davis doesn't turn it around, which could conceivably happen).

Assuming it was cheap and only for a year or two, there are worse things they could do.

I think odds are one of Ike Davis and Duda is on another team come 2014. I know that may annoy some people I just think it's going to play out that way. Davis is the superior glove but if Duda is clearly the superior bat it's not going to shock me if Duda is our 1b.

It is a possibility for Ike, he seems to be having better ABs lately, lets see if it will carry over. this week against Tampa for 2 games because he isn't hitting against Price

Is Conor Jackson on record as having discussed The Fever since his career took a nosedive? I'd be curious if he has said anything about fatigue or anything specific. Because otherwise, I'm a bit confused as to what specifically is the connection between Valley Fever and craptitude.

Asked if he thought valley fever had contributed to Jackson’s prolonged struggles, Byrnes said: “I think it would be hard to say there’s no correlation.”

Jackson, however, was somewhat more defiant. “I’m not going to sit here and say at the end of the day, ‘Gosh, if I didn’t get valley fever I could have been a really good player,’ “ he said. “It’s not in my genes to do that. Maybe when I’m done with my career we can have this discussion again. But I’m not going to sit here and say it while I’m in my career

I'd guess fatigue leads to slower bat speed leads to striking out more often. A loss of some strength leading to a loss of power.

Look familiar?

On Ichiro, I'd say no way. We have enough put the ball in play and hope it drops type of hitters (I'm looking at you Murphy). Like someone pointed out above, he's an injury away from being our next Luis Castillo.

Ichiro is the greatest Japanese player of his generation.

He may be the greatest of all-time, especially if you consider what his success in MLB has meant to the national self-esteem.

Japan is an affluent country where something like that means a lot.

For that fact alone, he's not signing any discounted contracts.

Except Conor Jackson actually had symptoms.
