I think so. Even with their hot start, ESPN playoff estimator still has Mets at only 30% to make the playoffs. The lineup is very thin, the 3-5 starters are weak, and so is the bullpen. Can't envision this team remaining a contender for much longer, good start aside. Mets badly need young bats and if you can add a young big time bat or two, I think it makes sense to deal Santana.
No use in holding onto older pitchers when 1) the Mets have a lot of young pitching ready to come up and 2) the Mets are likely still two years away from being serious contenders.

I think the mets are serious contenders this year.
Plus those young pitchers are still a couple years away.

Even in a world where the Mets are 10 games under .500 and Santana is just as good, despite his awesomeness, he is untradeable.

I think if you have a shot at the playoffs, you can't be a seller. As much as we're waiting for this team to turn into a pumpkin, the NL seems to be down this year, and with that 2nd wild card, we have a pretty good shot of getting in. I wouldn't advocate trading away pieces of the future to be buyers, but if standing pat means we can make the playoffs, you can't throw that away.

Having a one-two punch as good as ours at the top of the rotation is rare enough that I think you either have to deal the guys (as Dickey and Santana represent the rarest commodity in the game), or you need to make a concerted effort to build. To stand pat with that kind of pitching is to waste the talent they bring to the table.
