Jason Bay officially on 7-day DL with concussion. Justin Turner activated.

"Jason Bay is awful" notes aside, it's very unfortunate that he's being associated with concussions once again.

To be fair I think it's absolutely fair to say Jason Bay is awful AND to feel horrible he has to deal with this again. Concussions are not laughing matter.

There was quite a bit of discussion on WFAN today of fans booing him as he came off last night.

I think that's reprehensible.

But I also have to confess I thought it was a poor decision on his part to try to catch it and that's without considering the injury risk. Part of being a good outfielder is knowing what plays you can make and what plays you can't and also the situation. Just make the routine play and it's a stand-up double and the pitcher has a chance to work his way out of it.

People are using the Bruce inside the park HR as cover/plausible deniability. People on Amazin' Avenue who were at the game said it was still going on when he was leaving the field and almost a sarcastic cheer when Hairston was named the replacement on the PA.

Jon Rauch took to Twitter calling fans out. This is happening a bit too much with the fan base. The team is playing over its head all things considered and people are still miserable, 'woe is me' attitude that would make Joe Benigno blush. Yeah, I am fine with booing the bullpen for giving up runs or even cutting it too close but this is Philly-esque booing a player who is injured.

As for Bay going for the catch in a similar fashion where he knew there was a risk of re-injuring, I feel like I saw that from Ken Griffey Jr. one too many times in the Cincinnati years. I guess for Jason it is at least trying to show you are trying, built-up frustration. I feel bad but seeing the replays, I wonder what was going through his mind when extending himself like that.

3rd significant injury, potentially 2nd season-ending, on a "throwing the body around" play in the OF.

The first was your standard wall-catch that he just happened to hit his head in exactly the wrong spot. The two this year though were ill-advised flops after balls he couldn't catch.

When they player can't hit, it's "ill-advised."

If he was hitting .350, he would be "leaving it all out there."

Exactly what I was thinking as well.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

Fully admit this is totally true.

Embarrassed to be a Met fan with the booing. Boo if you must after a player strikes out or makes an error. Hate collective booing.

Mindless and classless.

Mets manager Terry Collins expects Jason Bay (concussion) to be out longer than seven days.
"I don’t know how long it’s going to be, but my guess is that it’ll certainly take a little bit of time," Collins said. "We’re just going to bide our time and see how he comes out here in the next few days and see how he feels." Bay suffered his second concussion in less than two years Friday and was placed on the 7-day DL. The Mets activated Justin Turner to replace him on the roster.

I've always felt that you should never boo a player on your favorite team unless they are being lazy or do something ridiculous off the field. I just think so many fans are hypocritical when they boo a player and then if the guy gets a walk-off hit later in the game they will cheer him as if they have always supported him. Makes no sense, support your players through the good and bad. I guess I just have a STL Cardinals fan mentality even though I am Mets fan. Booing Bay was ridiculous.
