Jordany Valdespin appears headed back to the Mets, team sources told ESPNNewYork.com.

Perhaps Kirk is DL-bound?

Or they could shed a reliever to get an extra bat for the stretch before the ASB with the starters pitching so well.

Depth is being able to DL a guy like Kirk and having someone to call up who isn't a big downgrade.

I've been very encouraged by the fact that Valdespin, who enjoyed a fair level of success in the bigs, continued to produce when he was sent down to AAA.

A lot of players go in the tank when they get sent down in a roster squeeze (Nick Evans is a classic example where he had a real good ST, didn't make the team and then tanked a whole year in the minors).

It's especially encouraging with Spin considering the fact that he was supposed to have had attitude problems in the past.

Age 24 maturation perhaps, Chico. He's an interesting player. He could carve out a role for the next 5 years as a handy guy if he could play passably at second, short, third and the corners in the OF.

Jordany Valdespin in the house. Looks like Nieuwenhuis heading to the DL, barring something unexpected. #Mets

Not to be a downer but he WAS benched after being sent down by Wally for more attitude stuff.

Hampson DFA'd, Valdespin up.

So much for Hampson being given a chance. Probably looking at a 6-man bullpen until the All-Star Break and then I'd expect things to normalize (assuming Kirk is okay by then).

Ugh. Why is this necessary? It's silly guys like Hampson can't get more than a 3 day look.

I'm THINKING this probably sets up Edgin to be here to start the 2nd half, which is fun. But SandyCo definitely has a quick trigger finger on the end of the pen while being incredibly patient with guys like Batista and the silly makeup of the bench.

One thing that's plainly clear is that no one in a decision-making position sees Batista the way 99 pct of NYFS sees him.

I'm not defending that, just calling it as I see it.

I wasn't aware of that, but I was going more by the fact that I see his name in the minor league game recaps as a star.

Also, it's kind of interesting as a mixed message--bench him in AAA, but then reward him by calling him back to the bigs.

I don't understand the Batista love. This FO does some really silly things from time to time. I would have liked to see Hampson more but with Edgin's recent stretch it probably pads the way for to see him.

Which is pretty terrible considering Batista is not any good.
