Ugh. Why is this necessary? It's silly guys like Hampson can't get more than a 3 day look.
I'm THINKING this probably sets up Edgin to be here to start the 2nd half, which is fun. But SandyCo definitely has a quick trigger finger on the end of the pen while being incredibly patient with guys like Batista and the silly makeup of the bench.
I really don't understand why the FO is so against having a 2nd lefty. They pulled the plug on Carson way too quick (probably the right move) and now Hampson. Granted Hampson didn't look good, but you can't let someone pitch 2x and decide they aren't gonna cut it.
Then you have guys like Batista that they run out there every day in situations due to fail and never hear anything bad about them.
Only reason why I see this move making sense is that the Mets are unsure of whether Kirk will go on the DL. If Kirk goes to the DL they can bring Hampson back up. With the innings the rotation has given lately the Mets have a rested pen and can afford to go with one fewer pitcher.

Doesn't Hampson have to wait 10 days? I think he could come right back if they DLed a pitcher.

If it's possible that he won't need the DL, I don't understand why you don't just DL him anyway. If they'd DLed him when this happened, they would have missed what, three games max if he was ready immediately after the break? This is the perfect time to use the break to your advantage, rather than going a man short for the next four games or so.

At the risk of his further development...I actually don't mind keeping Valdespin up here to provide some pop and speed off the bench...most of our bench cannot actually provide these useful skills.
Can we PLEASE PLEASE drop one of Cedeno, Turner, or Quintanilla? Why are all 3 of these redundant players on the roster?
I'm also a bit annoyed that we dropped Hampson that quickly. He was getting lefties out, that was his job.

As much as I loathe Cedeno, it probably makes the most sense to drop Turner, given that he's really not any better of a hitter than Cedeno and has significantly less defensive ability.
