The Mets and Phillies play game two of the series today as they celebrate the 4th of July with an afternoon game. In yesterday’s game the Mets rebounded nicely from their last game in LA with an 11-1 pounding with the Mets firing on all cylinders. Today Chris Young will take on Cliff Lee.
Chris Young is 2-1 on the season over 5 games and 30.0 innings of work with a 3.30 ERA. Last season Young made two starts against the Phillies with a 1-0 record over 12.1 innings while only allowing 1 ER. The Phillies have the following numbers against Young:
The Mets draw Cliff Lee who is 0-5 this season over 13 starts and 89.1 innings of work and an ERA of 4.13. The month of June was rough for Lee who went 0-3 in 5 starts pitching 32.1 innings and an ERA 6.12. He’s 0-1 against the Mets this season over 3 starts as he has allowed 9 ER over 19.0 innings of work (4.26 ERA). The Mets have the following numbers against Lee:
Dickey: 2.15 ERA Santana: 2.76 ERA Niese: 3.35 ERA Young: 2.75 ERA
I like how we basically have three guys who, of late, have been pitching well enough to be threes on a lot of staffs. I expect to win when Johan or Dickey are pitching, and I feel pretty confident with each of the other three. Not a lot of teams can say that.
