We have a terrible bullpen.

:x Frustrating. Can he Miguel Batista experiment end? DFA the guy already and bring up Beato. Bring back Johnson to replace Nickeas. He did a nice job when Thole was out. And why not use our best relievers when we NEED them, Terry? Wouldn't Ramirez be a better choice than Hefner? Bring in Parnell to stop some bleeding. Give yourself a chance. It's like when Philly hit the two HRs and took the lead, Terry waved the white flag. Thanks to Niese, Rauch was the only reliever from the pen that pitched yesterday. That's it. everyone else is available. And you make a Byrdak sandwich with HEFNER and BATISTA. What gives? I hate to complain about the manager. Terry is much better than anything we've had here in a long time. But as Chris Carter would say on NFL Countdown..."C'mon man!"

If we had Orosco and McDowell out there we would have lost 3-2.

I'm telling you guys, railing against Batista is fruitless.

He stinks, but he's not going from being a high-leverage setup guy to DFA overnight. For some reason I can't explain, the people making decisions have infinitely more faith in him than any of us do.

A damning stat mentioned by Howie and Josh on radio today--Batista has allowed 11 of 23 first batters to reach base. Per Howie, that's about twice the rate that's even "acceptable".

If the front office does its job, Hefner should never throw another pitch for the Mets.

Beato is the callup. Numbers are nice, eye test hasn't been as kind. Velo still down, no weapon against LHB still.

And I still find it hilarious that all we hear about is the need for a second lefty forever and twice this yr SandyCo has pulled the plug on a lefty shortly after recallingg them without a suitable replacement. So I expect in another few days, we will again hear about the need for a second bullpen lefty, esp since we essentially replaced one with a ROOGy now.

But hey, at least we have 4 backup MIFers here.

Batista is definitely not going anywhere now. With Hefner gone he's the long man again.

Edgin will probably be called up for Valdespin. Valdespin was called up for insurance for Kirk. Hampson being DFA creates another spot on the 40 man for Edgin.

I agree with sluger...Rauch > Batista and Hefner. Why was he wasted in an 11-1 rout last night? I agree the pen needs help, but at least use your 'best' relievers in a tight one and your mopup guys when you're blowing somebody out. It's just common sense.
