Firstly, I loved Reggie, sort of...he was a jerk and he and George and Billy Martin were made for each other...he probably belongs in the hall. That said...he had a career OPS of .846. Guess who else did...Gilbert Raymond Hodges...Gary Sheffield's was .906 fro comparison.
Secondly, Blyleven and Morris are not the same "generation" of pitchers...there is a ten year spread.
Morris in his best 14 years (removal 2 years to get established and removal of the last two years) had a 5.6K/9 ration and a 3.71 ERA/1.26 WHIP
...Blyleven in the 11 years that correspond with Morris' best years listed above (bear in mind these include the waning years of his career...ages 31 to 41)...6.1K/9, 3.76 ERA, 1.24 WHIP.
So Blyleven's end of career, including two seasons of injury and without removing the last two years are on par with Morris' peak.

Would Jackson attend? “He’s an awfully good friend. I’ve known Andy since he was 20. I’ll leave it there.”
, nevermind the fact that Andy Pettitte isn't a HoFer with or without the HGH.
I love his warped view on Andy Pettite (which is shared by many Yankee fans). To say that he is universally respected is a joke. The guy used his father to get HGH for him. Name one person that doesn't have ties to the Yankees that actually respects him? In my view and in many other fans' view Andy Pettite is just as big a piece of crap as Clemens is. For years I had to hear about the bible totting, family man Andy Pettite. For a guy that love's his family, he sure couldn't wait to get away from them.

Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1 Reggie wants borderline guys out of Hall. How about guy with .262BA, career K record, same OPS as Andres Galarraga. Oops, that's you Reggie

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:
"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."
But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

07:26 AM ET 07.07 | Reggie Jackson said yesterday he was looking to contact Gary Carter's widow to apologize for comments made about "The Kid's" Hall of Fame spot. In a recent Sports Illustrated article, Jackson lumped Carter in with Kirby Puckett, Jim Rice and others as players he questioned being in the Hall of Fame. Jackson also cast doubt about Alex Rodriguez and Andy Pettitte being worthy of Hall of Fame status because of performance enhancing drug usage. Rodriguez admitted in 2009 to using PEDs while with the Rangers. Pettitte also admitted using PEDs.

I don't see it as a classy move at all. It's strictly a business one. He's knocked two active Yankee players. If Reggie is permitted to "Yankee" ( to coin a phrase ), it sends the message that the organization agrees with disparaging remarks against two of their current players. That's not good for the players involved, the team in general and the overall business operations of the organization. I'd do the same thing if I were in their shoes. But it has nothing to do with class.

Personally, I wouldn't rule out "class" being involved, as well.
Everything else you say is probably 100 pct accurate, but it's also possible for people in the Yankees brass to be offended by the poor taste of knocking other Hall of Famers, especially ones who are recently deceased after a horrible illness.

The Yankees are a corporate entity above all else. Whether something is motivated by class or not, they don't want anyone who is going to embarrass them publicly. Their organizational mantra is generally for players to shut up and play. This makes them kind of boring, cold, and sterile, but it also makes comments like Jackson's completely unacceptable. When the M.O. is to avoid controversy, it doesn't really fit to be associated with someone who invites that. Call it class, call it business, call it what you will, but running one's mouth flies in the face of their image (contrast this with the Phils or the Red Sox, who seem to seek out big mouthed jerkfaces).

Goose Gossage has also said a lot of stuff, a lot of stupid stuff, about current players and Yankees, current and former but the Yankees still let him fron their brand. I actually do buy the uneasiness of trashing two dead guys, guys who around baseball were universally respected. Though they let Reggie trash Billy Martin after his death but I guess there is some truth or just a touchy subject for all involved.
