I expect Flexen should get another shot soon.

He's been mostly awful this season. 4.72 FIP, unimpressive K/9. BABIP has hurt him and they don't have many options but he hasn't been particularly good.

Allowed 2 ER or less in 5 of his 7 starts (3 and 4 in the other 2). Still inducing a lot of GBs, while babip is a little high. Hasn't been bad. Still just 23.

Also, there might be one more tiny factor...

... he is pitching in Vegas.

I think you need a new definition of "awful." Those are solid numbers for a 23-year-old in Vegas. Nothing mind-blowing, but solid.

Really? Coming into last night 32.2 innings 46 hits 9 walks 26 k's. His FIP is 4.72. The suggestion of the OP that because he had a good start he deserves a look. He hasn't been good. Facts.

As for "Vegas" his FIP is worse than Conlon, Peterson, Corey Taylor, McGowan and he's 6th on the team in xFIP. Lets not pretend he's been really solid but #Vegas. He was good last night. He hasn't been particularly good and looked mostly HORRENDOUS as a SP with the big club.

I didn't say anything about last year. Yeah, he was terrible last year in the majors. Doesn't mean there can't be a back-end starter there eventually with more polish.

Comparing starters to relievers isn't fair. If you look at other starters we've had in Vegas a 4.7 FIP isn't "awful." I'm not suggesting he needs a major league look, but I'm decently encouraged that he's at least not walking the park. I thought he'd get lit up worse than he has so far.

Vasquez per an eyewitness who attends many games apparently hits lasers and the sound off the bat is louder than any other player on the team. Hasn't been as impressive lately (1 walk over his last 10 in particular is discouraging) but that was good to hear.

Villines "last 10" numbers are absurd in so many ways.

Allowing 10 runs in 12 innings on 13 hits and a walk is a hard thing to do, especially when you've K'd 26 in that span (guys have fewer chances to advance on a ground ball, score on a sac fly, etc.)

The gap between his ERA and FIP or xFIP has to be among the biggest in the system, maybe even the minors for those with as many innings?
