Gimenez really does have an impressive line for a 19 year-old.

.272/.343/.417
6 HR
26 SB

Lefties: 271/ 324/ 406
Righties: 273/ 350/ 422

I get a little concerned only because I think of Ruben Tejada's 19 year old season in AA 9 years ago. Tejada was always highly regarded for his "feel of the game" and not his tools. Then again, you have Rosario who got high praises for tools and is off to a sluggish MLB career.

.289/.351/.381
5 HR
19/21 SB

Gimenez is interesting and I want to be a fan, but I'm not quite sold yet.

Well yeah, with each prospect there should be concern. But it's a lot more fun to see the positives in the moment as to worrying about a possible outcome. I mean....one of these shortstops have to work out, right?

Not knocking Gimenez at all, he's been impressive but the steals are inflated. He has solid speed but not a burner and the St. Lucie Mets have attempted 148 steals, whereas Palm Beach has attempted 53.

This is certainly true, but I think its still a good sign. Shows some desire. Shows an aggressive streak, still has to hint at a 50-speed grade, and shows off an element we sorely lack. I have a feeling he's going to end up the anti-rosario. The guy that outperforms Rosario in all facets, despite Gimenez supposedly not being able to match any of Rosario's tools. I really hope this is an exaggeration, but I think we've seen enough from Amed to know that whatever happens, he was not developed properly.

When Tejada was at St.Lucie in 2008:

.229/.293/.588 19 doubles, 4 triples, 2 HR, 8 SB in 497 AB

Gimenez this year at St. Lucie:

.272/.342/.759 17 doubles, 3 triples, 6 HR, 26 SB in 283 AB

Granted Tejada was 17 at the time and Gimenez is 19, and Tejada certainly improved when he reached AA in 2009, but my point is the FSL is not known for its bloated offensive numbers, and Gimenez seems to be holding his own. I do like that Gimenez bats lefty, too. More of a bunt-for-base-hit, put-pressure-on-the-defense threat than Tejada ever was.

I dunno. Just throwing out some food for thought. I'm curious to see how AG does in AA next year. Alotta potential, it seems.

Who cares how many bases he might steal? No one steals 50 bases anymore anyway. Point is that he has good speed on the bases... can go 1st to 3rd on a hit, etc. I think that vis-a-vis Rosario, Gimenez is instincts over athleticism. Rosario is prob the better athlete (not by a lot) but Gimenez appears to have better baseball instincts (while also a + athlete). I think he's prob a top 50 prospect by next season.

Mauricio's hit streak reaches 18, one higher than his age.

He had 8 strikeouts in his first 7 games, just 3 in his last 11.

Anyone have gun readings on Viall? Just curious how much he's backed it down to become more efficient..... if at all.

Hasn't K'd in 8 of his last 9 games. That is super impressive. Didn't realize he was a SHer either. Very exciting prospect. I'm also super excited about Alvarez... really nice swing from the left side. Now if only they could get the draft right.

Long as Kelenic keeps hitting, nothing else about the draft matters. Hit on #1 and the rest is bonus.... whether they left chips on the table or not, still bonus.
