“We know he is open to the idea,” Ricco said. “That is something we have to discuss long term if that works. He is taking grounders to see how it feels. That is the extent of it so far. We hope to have him in rehab games during the All-Star break. We still anticipate that he comes back as an outfielder. But we have had discussions, and he is open to first base.”

100% agree. I am done with Yoenis. Wouldn’t care if they just released him but that ain’t happening.

Have to believe he would pass thru waivers. If someone claims him, do you just let him go?

I think the economic term is a sunk cost.

and playing 1st base is hard. But if he's game and if he can do it - props to him.

If you'd told me a year ago that we might see Ces at 1st and dom in LF, I'd have called you crazy.

I'm a bit shocked at the discourse here because I actually think this is a good idea

2017: .292/.352/.540 17HR in 81 games
2018: .255/.316/.474 (still a 112 wRC+ somehow) 8 HR in 37 games

There's still a high-level hitter in there and if moving him to first alleviates some of the leg issues he had in the past, I'm all for it.

J.J. Picollo for the next Mets GM

Yeah and let's move Alonso to 2B...?

The way the Mets are talking about contending in 2019, they might be moving Alonso and using his top 100 status for a good pen arm.

Once again, the Mets are jam packed with extra redundant parts so they have to shoehorn Bruce in there. Dom Smith and Peter Alonso effectively blocked for next year unless they trade Nimmo or Conforto.

Cespedes and Bruce are not sitting the bench.

The Mets would send a million dollars worth of flowers to the team that claims him lol
