Then they won't be getting a top GM candidate if they aren't going to let him bring in his own manager. They'll end up with the baseball version of John Idzik.

Exactly. No legit GM candidate is going to take the job without having a say on the manager.

Yeah, let's go back to this when the time comes...

I predicted he would be coming back. IMHO thats a bad sign for next year for two reasons. One: He's terrible and two: it shows that Wilpons do not want to eat his contract which means you can forget about them raising the budget during the off season. It's not going to happen.

Do the players like him? Just curious.

I'd be surprised if anyone lost their job this winter, including players and the Front Office.

It sort of gets me wondering. What do these guys have to do to lose their jobs? I'm guessing the answer to that is publicly blame the Wilpons for this mess.

If they are being realistic, the new GM is going to have some serious work in front of him. Mickey won't hurt anything being here another year under those conditions, IMO. As in, I don't see it as a dealbreaker. When the team starts turning the corner, get them the manager they need to grow with.

The Mets kinda needed to do this. Now, bring in a smart NL guy and help the man. Also, have him play the kids, please.

I think they have hinted strongly he should play kids based on their promotions. More often than not, he has not done so unless desperate.

This. When the Jets told prospective GM candidates that they needed to retain a polarizing, stupid coach who wasn't capable of developing young players, the most qualified candidates didn't interview. It's important to remember that retaining Callaway could do more damage than costing us games, burning out some players, and burying others. Fresh start in 2019, please.
