This can serve as a thread discussing any minor league stuff, awards, scouting reports, other lists etc that come out between now and 10/1

Andres Gimenez, New York Mets, Scottsdale Scorpions
You may have heard about this Peter Alonso fella heading to Arizona on the Mets, but their farm system has others to watch. While I’m interested in seeing how Desmond Lindsay responds after another rather ho-hum season, Gimenez also has me curious.

I saw Jimenez last season with Columbia and was told he was the prospect to watch in the Mets system. While he wasn’t overly impressive last season, he seems to have shown those skills this year in a quick jump from the Florida State League to the Eastern League. He has shown little power since arriving in Binghamton with just nine doubles and no home runs in 36 games, but power wasn’t his calling card. He’s hit well and plays sound defense. With the Mets clearly ready for him to take charge in Flushing, it will be interesting to see what he does this fall.

Peter Alonso - 1B
College hitters who rake often get love from teams and evaluators during the draft and Peter Alonso was no exception. Drafted out of Florida by the Mets in the second round in the 2016 draft, no one questioned that Alonso had power at his disposal. The question was how much his hit tool would let his power play in games, especially when one considers that he’s strictly a first baseman which puts a ton of pressure on his bat. After a strong but not otherworldly 2017 season, Alonso started hitting tape measure shots on the regular and mashed his way to Triple-A. His 35 home runs and reasonable contact rates have him competing for the title of best first base prospect in baseball. The downside is that he isn’t a great defensive player, but it looks like the Mets are going to work him hard to improve that aspect of his game before he debuts (likely sometime in 2019...although who knows given its the Mets we are talking about).

You could've cited Oringer and Rosen's piece.

Quote:
Cortes’ second at-bat showed his poorest tool – his run. On a slow ground ball on which he was doubled up, Cortes ran an abysmal 4.7 out of the left-handed batter’s box. At just 5’8”, 200 pounds, his strides are short and clunky. He could potentially stick at second base with decent range and did flash some potential there. Nonetheless, I would not trust the fleet-of-foot Cortes in the outfield as he has a natural inability to cover ground.

I didn't even read that piece so why would I cite it? Legit the first time I'm seeing this article

It's going to be pretty cool this summer to take a road trip to Syracuse on a Saturday for a game then drive down to Binghamton for a Sunday game and then home. Looking forward to making that road trip!

Looking forward to Fireflies next year - team should be much, much better than this year's version - think I'm going to buy a tix package and take in a few games, especially early in the year.

Peter Alonso said he was told that not being called up was a "business decision, an organizational decision."

The sounds you just heard was the whoosh of the grievance papers being quickly filed.
