John Harper’s prediction for the Mets Winter Meetings

Quote:
Mets Sign A.J. Pollock, Andrew Miller, Martin Maldonado

The romance is on between Brodie Van Wagenen and the Wilpons, meaning he'll have freedom to raise the payroll, perhaps to the $170-$180 million level. And these three free agents would fill holes nicely.

Two of them come with injury concerns, but as a right-handed-hitting CF, Pollock is a perfect fit, and the addition of Edwin Diaz gives the Mets room to gamble on Miller's dominance when healthy. Finally, Maldonado makes sense as a defense-first catcher for a team whose success will depend mostly on its starting pitching.

He would be a nice extra outfielder to come in for late defense and pinch run late in a game.

Career .298 OBP. I like his speed, but we'd basically be playing with a 24 1/2 man roster

Man, I just looked at the Nats offseason so far. They've added $48m to their 2019 payroll so far.

The Mets are trying to move money around to sign bit pieces.

Sames Mets no matter who the GM.

Shiny new toy syndrome is what you like.

Plus they continue to defer payments to keep their payroll low but when 2023-2024 comes around , they will be paying 5-6 guys 2-4 million each and they won't be on the team

You bring him in for pinch running and defense and at the end of the year he's got 500 ABs under the Mendoza line.

Billy Hamilton could be a super productive player in a bench role with the right manager. If you think Mickey is that manager, raise your hand.

Hamilton would be a great addition. Someone gets on base in the latter innings, pinch run him. We currently have nobody on the roster that can run like that. Cut or trade Lagares to make room.

Yeah so Champ Stuart was released, from AA. Billy Hamilton can't hit - MLB pitching, he absolutely can hit AA pitching, FTR - but still does enough to be value added to a major league roster. Champ Stuart couldn't do enough to be valuable to a AA team in his 3rd go around that league. At age 26.

Curious as to what you think Hamilton's value is.
