I've said this the past two offseasons, the agents for these non-elite players that aren't accepting the QO are really not very good at their jobs. I would have everyone of my clients accept and wait til the next year to hit free agency.

I thought at the time that Grandal was a candidate to accept. Most thought that was nuts. I think Pollock is the next one that is going to have to settle for much less than he expected.

I am with Ralf and you on this one. Take the one year windfall QO, and go on the market the next year without the pick attached...more free market. Definitely a risk, though

Yup.

Looks like he'll end up in Chicago with the ChiSox. Calling it 7 yrs, $210M with an opt out or opt out/in.

Unless the Dodgers or Giants re-engage on Harper, it appears the Phils look like his most likely landing spot. Still see the Nats as unlikely given where they are with the lux tax. No idea what his deal will look like... 10/350M?

Lowrie for $10m, LeMahieu for $12m...Mets definitely got the better deal, IMO.

LeMahieu last season ranked second among all second baseman in defensive runs saved. He has played 892 career games at second, 41 at third (none since 2014) and four at first (again, none since ‘14).

This was in response to Jack Curry saying the Yankees intend to play DJLM all over the IF.

I love it when people criticize teams for [gasp] moving a player once he's established at a particular position. Thing is that LeMahieu is just a very good defensive player.... ergo, he will be good wherever he plays (as long as it's within his skillset... not suggesting he'll be a good catcher, but ya never know!). The notion that someone has to remain in one place their entire career is silly. People aren't bound to that mentality in other walks of life.

I agree with its ok to ask a player to change positions but you alos need to be smart about it do it with players that are athletic and could make an easier transition the Mets seem to do it with guys that either aren't very good defensively and/or have them switch to a position totally out of their skillset. I think it worked with Asdrubal, Reyes @ second (although stupid to move him for Matsui), Kevin Mitchell, Melvin Mora and Alfonso. But then there is the Murphy, Duda, Piazza, Hundley, Samuel, Miller crew.

It's up to Mickey to optimize the personnel he's been given, offensively AND defensively.

We'll see how the final roster making shakes out but Lowrie is not quite Zobrist, but mcNeil very well could be.

The Davis--Frazier storyline will be interesting.

Not sure who even needs Frazier at this point with Moustakas and a few others still on the market...maybe those who whiff on Machado.

It's starting to look more clear now that it's probably going to be Harper in Philly and Machado in Chicago. Question is whether the Phils will also sign Kimbrel. Imagine signing Cutch, Rbtson, Harper and Kimbrel in one winter...

Any guesses as the validity or identity of a "mystery team" in on Machado? Only one I go back to that would make any sense is the Cards. They could put MM at SS and either deal DeJong or move DeJong to the OF for a year. Carpenter is signed for '19 with a '20 option. So MM could slide over to 3B after Carpenter leaves. It's really too bad the Pirates won't spend the money. He'd fit good in Pitts.
