A lot of threads with various roster discussions going on. I'll try this to consolidate some of it... and kick it off with this:

If you look at his history, nagging injuries seem to be a pretty big culprit with regard to his poor performances. So the question moving forward is can he stay healthy? The aging curve will make that more of a challenge.Adam Fisher added,

Jay Bruce in 16 games since returning from the DL:
.275/.362/.569 with 3 doubles, 4 homers, 10 RBI and 7 BB/10K

Just when you decide to be down on Jay Bruce, he will surprise you. I think he's a very proud guy who will want to make up for this lost year with a big 2019 and I wouldn't count him out. Has to stay healthy. And I think whoever is running the team can maximize his output by limiting his exposure to LHers. I think he's in RF most of the way next yr (facing RHers). Don't believe the hype about holding back Alonso. They're going to desperately need his bat in the lineup.

Good idea. I'll copy and paste my proposal here, which assumes we are not investing a ton or tearing it all down:

Focus resources (what little they'd likely invest) on the bullpen, maybe a bench piece. I like what I'm seeing from Plaw, and TdA is back next year, but maybe a backup C type.

- See if Mark Reynolds or Marwin Gonzalez will take a 1 or 2 year deal.
- See which catcher will take a one year deal: Maldonado, Suzuki, Rivera, AJ Ellis, Hundley.
- Sign two or three from this group, at least one lefty: Robertson, Familia, Ottavino, Herrera, Andrew Miller, Justin Wilson, Blevins, Ollie (.64 WHIP this year in 28 innings!).
- Cespedes mid-season boosts that lineup, plus any trades if they are in it.

Rosario SS
McNeil 2B
Conforto LF
Bruce/Smith 1B
Frazier 3B
Nimmo RF
Plawecki C
Lagares CF

Reynolds/Gonzalez IF/OF
Smith/Bruce 1B/OF
Flores IF
Reinheimer/TJ/Surprise UTILITY
Backup C

deGrom
Syndergaard
Wheeler
Matz
Vargas/Oswalt/Lugo

Robertson/Familia/Ottavino
Herrera-type
Gsellman
Lugo
Blevins/Wilson/Ollie/Miller
Smith
Zamora

Call Pittsburgh about Cervelli and Chicago about Narvaez. I'd give up a good chip for one of them.

Bruce is going to play. Might as well hope he doesn't stink.

Re-unite a part of the 2017 Indians bullpen by trading Jay Bruce and $6.5M to Colorado for Jeff Shaw. Then, sign Andrew Miller.

Bring Familia back. Trade either Justin Dunn or David Peterson to Houston for Myles Straw. Hope that you can get something out of Lagares.

Non-tender TdA and let Plawecki and Nido battle it out for the starting catcher's job.

Give the first base job to Alonso. Keep Wilmer around for insurance.

Waive Vargas and give Lugo the 5th starter's role.

Swap the "spare parts" (i.e the Flexens, the Sewalds, etc.) of the team for other team's spare parts. Look for specific role types, i.e. defensive whiz, speedster, ROOGY, etc.

Bruce, Nimmo, Conforto in the outfield? that a good outfield.
Grab a stud 3B and slide Frazier over to 1B to go with "Real Deal" McNeil and Rosario.
Or a 1B who crushes LHP and leave Frazier at 3B
Grandall in here to platoon with Plaw
Extend Wheeler
Spend some money in the pen
Extend deGrom

Wouldn't that be cool to land Machado? A man can dream, can't he?

If it is Nimmo, Conforto, Bruce in the outfield, then obviously you hope he is healthy and productive. It is not good defensively, but not horrific either.

First base in a platoon with Smith and Wilmer makes sense...to everyone but the Mets who will attempt to sign another cheap reclamation corner project.

Second, Short and third seem to be covered.

Catcher, pen, trading Vargas in that order.

Too bad Marwin can't play center...

My prediction: Lucroy, Matt Adams, Jeurys Familia and Sergio Romo...because they cannot help themselves...

With Dom, Bruce, Alonso knocking on the door, Wilmer, maybe Wright, maybe Frazier, I can't see the Mets signing Matt Adams with him being a liability in the OF.
