Not a big surprise, but thought it might be more he moved to another position.

"A clear sign that BVW is hard to get along with and can't attract/retain front office talent. This hiring was a joke."

[Somewhere on twitter, someone will say this who previously lamented the 3 headed monster being pushed on any new GM]

I edited so as to not be accused of my usual d-bag-ery. But yeah, someone will definitely say that somewhere who previously killed JPR/the 3 headed machine/said no good GM would come here because they had to inherit the core group already in place. Guarantee it.

Odd how so many (including the writers) have waxed poetic of the previous regime as if they actually... won games?

Seems a little cold.

I guess we can expect the badmouthing to begin shortly.

BVW committed to keeping on the old guys thru the GM meetings to help with the transition, but Martino says Ricco and JPR were looking for their next opportunity as far back as last summer. Highly doubt this was an unexpected ax'ing.

But, to my point above - are we now going to pretend like we wanted BVW to keep these guys on? He's been in place almost 2 weeks now, so think the clearing out of the old regime's guys is not only warranted, but expected at this point under normal circumstances. I know most just assumed Fred gave BVW unrealistic work conditions such as the requirement to hold onto all these loyal holdovers, and BVW accepted them because everything sucks and we can't have nice things and BVW is just a stooge...but if Bloom came in and let JPR go within 2 weeks, would we being saying "cold"?

Isn't this what we wanted? I know I did.

MJ,
You honestly believe clean slate BVW choosing the guys who remain? Omar Minaya would be his right hand man?

What does Omar have to do with this?

Is the narrative now that BVW was forced/agreed to take on the existing 3 guys, but now JPR is leaving of his own accord, and thats a bad thing?

I sarcastically alluded above to the idea that somehow this will get spun negatively when its the very thing people were complaining about anticipating NOT happening. Surely we're not going to do that, are we?

As to Omar: have no idea, but JPR seemingly shows that BVW taking the job wasn't coniditioned upon him keeping the existing FO structure in place. Maybe he had to keep 1 (Omar would be the right choice if so). Maybe Omar was the only one forced on him (again, I liked when they brought Omar back, so no complaint from me). RAJ certainly appears to have been BVW's call to bring upstairs so I think it looks like, at least from our view, that BVW is not being shoehorned into a situation where he is a figurehead only and the structure otherwise is the same.

I believe the Mets had certain "rules" that had to be agreed to and one of them was yes, keeping on some of the people who remain. I'm not buying that if Fred said "Brodie, nobody is under contract you bring in who you want" his picks would be Omar, Collins, RAJ, Ricco, Tanous, Mickey as a group. I guess we will have to agree to disagree here. I'm just not buying it. For me, I would have liked seeing MORE of these guys leave so the bold is totally off base in regard to my position.

Hold on. I said "cold" ONLY because the Mets tweet said "effective immediately." Whether or not that simply reflects the facts, it sounded cold.

What I said after that about bad-mouthing is just reflecting on the normal Mets MO. I said that part with usual Mets-based sarcasm.

No one (well not me anyway) is suggesting suddenly that they lament the loss of flippin JP Ricciardi. I think you are going a little overboard on the contrarianism there. Has anybody in here pined for the whole 3 headed monster to stay intact? The only guy I've seen people want to stay on is Omar.
