Who becomes the starters, who the bench (in reality, not what SHOULD happen), who gets farmed out.

It's looking to me like:
Nimmo - LF (I think he will lose significant PT to LHP)
Lowrie - 1B (Alonso to the minors, Davis to the bench)
Cano -2B
Conforto - RF
Ramos - C
Frazier - 3B (Soft platoon with McNeil)
Lagares - CF (Short lease - Broxton or McNeil)
Rosario - SS

Bench: Broxton (OF), McNeil (OF/IF), D'Arnaud (C), Davis (CI/CO)

Farmed out: Alonso, Dom, Cecchini, TJ Rivera, Nido, Guillorme

Assuming everyone is healthy, OD roster gonna be:

C: Ramos
1B: Frazier
2B: Cano
SS: Rosario
3B: Lowrie
LF: Conforto
CF: Lagares
RF: Nimmo

Bench: Nido, McNeil, TJR, Domo, Broxton

SP: deGrom, Noah, Matz, Wheeler, Vargas

RP: Diaz, Familia, (to be signed/traded for RP), Lugo, Gsellman, Smith, Avian

DL: TdA

JD Davis is the 3B at AAA, Guillorme the SS, Dilson the 2B, Alonso the 1B

Cheech is a AAA utility player if they haven't traded him or released him

Lowrie is a better hitter LH, so I could see a soft platoon at third.

I really don't think Alonso sniffs Flushing unless they move Frazier now, except as a call up for injury.

Too many IFs...

Except for a couple of minor spots in the BP an a way too optimistic DL i'm +1.

It seems like a lot of measuring 6 vs half a dozen. I'm not sure who plays 1st vs 3rd. My hunch is Lowrie plays 3rd, so McNeil/Frazier will be a kind of platoon at 1st, but it could go any number of ways. Cano moving to 1st is possible too but he also blocks Alonso there . . . so, who knows.

1B) McNeil/Frazier
2B) Cano
3B) Lowrie
SS) Rosario

2nd Infield bench: The obvious answer here is JD Davis, but it wouldn't surprise me if they found a defense/speed/backup SS type, preferably one with options.

OF: Conforto, Nimmo, Lagares seems obvious. Broxton as a defensive replacement.

5th OF spot: With McNeil perhaps getting 2 starts here a week and JD Davis, if hes on the roster backing up RF with his cannon for an arm, they might not need to carry a 5th OF, but Lagares health concerns means I don't think they're done adding position players. I think they have to add at least 1 more OF, and as noted above, maybe a backup SS type.

When Alonso comes up, it could be a pretty impressive lineup.

I believe TdA remains out post-TJ surgery. Maybe I’m mis-reading your post. But anyhow, in case anyone wasn’t aware.

The Mets have a fairly old roster here.

They need depth to survive the season.

Starting pitching depth is the only place where they seriously lack.

But it's hard to solve this with Vargas holding down the #5 starter slot.

I'm not too worried about how playing time will shake out.

If Alonso has to spend a month in 'Cuse before Frazier plays himself out of a key role (assuming he isn't traded) or Lowrie hits the DL, no big deal. Davis hasn't earned the right to be lumped in with Frazier and Lowrie when it comes to deserved playing time and he has options, so the logical choice with all else equal seems to be him starting the year in Syracuse. I'm confident McNeil will get plenty of playing time in the super sub role that's been bandied about.

BENCH: d'Arnaud, Lagares, McNeil, TJR, some fifth guy

deGrom, Syndergaard, Wheeler, Matz, Vargas (ugh)
Diaz, Familia, Lugo, Zamora, Avlian, Gsellman, one of the kiddie flamers

Sign Derek Holland. If everyone’s healthy, Vargas goes into the pen in the Darren Oliver role until a spot opens up.
