They have 4 closers. And 5 if you include Green.

Two of those four were never real big time closers and Green certainly isn’t either. Britton was but he chose to come back and get paid to set up, vaya con dios. Kimbrel is not signing some short term deal AND taking a demotion, and the Mets aren’t going to make their own trade (and themselves) look stupid by demoting the better pitcher, both scenarios are a total message board fantasy baseball pipe dream.

I agree it's a dream. The Mets aren't going to spend anymore money on the bullpen this year. But you can't tell me everyone in that clubhouse wouldn't want Kimbrel in the pen in any capacity. Doolittle is lobbying for it in Washington. He'd love to have Kimbrel and even give up his closer role. Demotion? I would be willing to bet Diaz would feel the same as Doolittle. Saves are overrated anyway. Winning is the metric these guys care about when they get on that bump or get in the batter's box. Getting to the playoffs. Chasing that ring. Diaz will get paid when he gets paid no matter how many saves or holds he gets. Guy is a stud. Studs get paid. I think you ought to have your best pitchers in when the situation is tight and you need a big out or two. 7th, 8th, 9th inning. I don't care. Shut down rallies before they start. Win games. But you are free to disagree. I'm not offended.

It’s easier for guys like Doolittle, Britton and Andrew Miller to be magnanimous about their role after being paid. Diaz hasn’t been paid yet. And on top of it had one of the best closer seasons of all time last year while Kimbrel has arguably the best closer resume of the decade. Sure the line between setup guy and closer is blurring in FA to an extent but not in arbitration (ask Betances)

Seems like Pete Alonso has gotten an awful lot of play this spring with the media for someone who's never played a major league game. Now he sees himself as an artiste...

If Diaz bombs that trade will go down as the worst in past 40 years in franchise history.

He's not going to bomb...

If the mets don't make the playoffs this year or next, this entire off season will look bad.

Even if Cano hits .300 with 25-100 the next 3-4 years?

Unless Diaz is Mel Rojas he's not going to bomb, but even 'good' Mel Rojas wasn't a patch on what Diaz was last year. Diaz's floor is probably Benitez.

He's a real jerk now, but Len Dykstra for Juan Samuel easily beats that one. Mets likely win the NL East in 1990 with Dykstra still on board. Kazmir was pretty bad however.

And not for nothing Diaz was facing the Nats yesterday, a team he might have to face double-digit times in the regular season. I can't exactly blame him for throwing batting practice BP against their normal lineup and not letting them look at his actual pitches before they need to.

I don't think he will bomb, but there is no such thing as floor when it comes to relievers..... when they go south, they bust right through the floor.
