Not sure if anyone will be able to get up off the mat AND manage to navigate to Youtube, but we can talk about today's game here. And with that, let's note that with their best depth of the season, somehow Juan Lagares is starting against a RHP. Unbelievable.

NYM Lineup
J McNeil (L) 3B
P Alonso (R) 1B
M Conforto (L) RF
W Ramos (R) C
R Canó (L) 2B
J Davis (R) LF
A Rosario (R) SS
J Lagares (R) CF
Z Wheeler (L) P

WSH Lineup
T Turner (R) SS
A Cabrera (S) 2B
A Rendon (R) 3B
J Soto (L) LF
R Zimmerman (R) 1B
K Suzuki (R) C
V Robles (R) CF
G Parra (L) RF
A Sánchez (R) P

I understand that you want to try and take it a little bit easy on a guy who is coming back from a long-term injury. But today isn't the day. Nimmo is EXACTLY the kind of fiery, "never-give-up" guy that you want in the lineup today, particularly against a RHP. Didn't we make a point of testing Nimmo out in back to back games while he was up in Syracuse before bringing him back? There's an off-day tomorrow and a day game today, he'll get plenty of rest before Friday back home against the Phillies.

This is like a roster you see most "good teams" build. Throwing away the concept of a traditional bench where you just have a bunch of 1 dimensional veterans, and having multi-positional guys you can matchup. Consider the Dodgers, where a normal "bench" may include David Freese, Enrique Hernandez, Chris Taylor - deployable all over the field, all probably technically proficient enough to "start", etc.

With a bench that may soon consistent of Lowrie, Frazier, Panik, and McNeil's flexibility, this should be a good thing, but I really struggle with the idea that Mickey can figure it out, and not just seemingly randomly assign days off to "keep guys fresh."

Are we sure the lineup isn't sitting on Mickey's desk waiting for him when he arrives at his office?

With the playoff possibility evaporating quickly, you really need this game today after the brutal loss last night if you want to keep the playoff mirage alive. After last night, a loss today followed by a day off to let it all sink into their heads? The Phillies would come right into our house and finish us off.

Maybe with the quick turnaround they will not have time to let it sink in. Playoffs are a distant miracle, but they have been resilient with losses this year. Though the first time this has happened in 807 franchise games is tough.

If they win today and still take two out of three, was the series a massive fail given yesterday's game?

Certainly could be, and then the problem runs even deeper.

Yes. Series wins and all that silliness that gets spewed in April means nothing now. Any winnable game that is not won at this point is a failure. 5 back with 23 to play is a massive undertaking. Don't cite 2007 and 2008 at me - there's a reason why we think back to those seasons as such choke-jobs (and that was with teams only having to chase ONE team - we're chasing 4 right now).
