The Mets completed a three game sweep of the Washington Nationals with a 5-2 win, that gave the Mets a share of first place. With 50 games left the Mets are in first place, have one of the best home records in baseball, and have some new found power in their lineup, to go with their young pitching. You could even forgive them for thinking they had some mojo working, as Lucas Duda capped a string of 3 home runs on five pitches in the third inning to give the Mets a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Noah Syndergaard pitched 8 strong innings, allowing just 2 runs and striking out 9, including Bryce Harper on his final pitch, leaving the Nats star watching forlornly from the batters box, as he strutted back to the dugout. “We’re excited,” Mets manager Terry Collins said. “We know we have 50-something [games] to go and have to play those guys six more times, but this is a huge weekend for us. In the scope of things, this was a great homestand for the way we finished it.”

“The electricity in the ballpark going through that was incredible,” Collins said. “It was enough to ride to the finish.”
