Wilmer Flores was 2-5 with 6 RBI and a ninth inning grand slam home run, and Matt den Dekker provided the web gems on defense to give the Mets an 11-2 win over the Phillies in the series finale. Bartolo Colon pitched 7 innings allowing just 2 earned runs for the win and Daniel Murphy and David Wright each had 2 hits of their own in the victory.

“I just want to prove to them that I can do the job,” Flores said. “I know I’m good and I can do this.”

Den Dekker, called up from Triple-A Las Vegas a day after being sent down, robbed Ryan Howard of his third homer in three games. He jumped above the short wall in center and grabbed Howard’s drive in the second.

Den Dekker saved another run in the third when he threw out Reid Brignac trying to score from second on Ben Revere’s single. Brignac hadn’t even reached third base when den Dekker fielded the ball in medium center, but third-base coach Pete Mackanin inexplicably waived him home.
