The Pacific Coast League announced to day that Las Vegas 51s manager Wally Backman has been named manager of the year. A fan favorite, Backman was an icon of the hardworking bad-boy 1986 Mets team that last provided Mets fans with a World Series title. This season, Backman has led the playoff bound 51s to an 80-61 record, marking the second consecutive season he has managed Las Vegas to 80+ wins and a playoff berth. source: Las Vegas Review Journal
