The Mets offense exploded for 12 runs on 15 hits including six doubles and Michael Conforto’s first career home run to crush the Florida Marlins 12-2 and take sole possession of first place in the NL East. Trade deadline pick up Yoenis Cespedes paid immediate dividends with 3 doubles and 4 RBI. Curtis Granderson and Travis d’Arnaud also had multi hit games, and Bartolo Colon tossed 8 classic one run innings for the win. BOX | RECAP

“They’ve earned it,” Mets manager Terry Collins said of his club’s first-place status. “They belong there, and hopefully we stay there for a while.”
