Gabriel Hernandez :: P last edit: 09/20/07 by: Calli Not In Organization | B: R | T: R | HT: 6-3 | WT: 215 | DOB: 5/21/86
Hernandez was drafted by the Mets in the 2004 amatuer draft with their 3rd Round (74th overall) selection. He was drafted out of Belen Jesuit Prep. He was named the No.3 prospect overall in the Mets system for 2004 by Baseball America. The Mets dealt Gaby and Dante Brinkley to the Marlins in exchange for Paul Lo Duca on December 4, 2005.
Pitching
Could be an ideal pitching prospect in the mold of what pitching coach Rick Peterson is looking for. Hernandez has a fluid motion with good life in his arm. To go along with that he has a very solid frame and stuff for such a young player. He took the role of staff ace in his first sesaon as a pro and basically exceeded all expectations. Long way to go still for Gaby but he could develop into a front of the rotation starter.
Repertoire
Has a very hard fastball which sits in the low 90‘s getting up to 92-93mph right now. Has a big, and nasty 11-5 breaking curveball and a decent changeup as well. His stuff is definitely there.
