Scott Kazmir :: P last edit: 09/10/07 by: Calli Not In Organization | B: L | T: L | HT: 6-1 | WT: 175 | DOB: 1/24/84
The Mets selected Scott Kazmir with their 1st round pick in 2002. Kazmir, from Houston, TX, was named the top HS School pitcher in the country by most national publications, but somehow fell to the Mets with the 15th pick. Scott was traded to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at the 2004 trade deadline.
Pitching
Kazmir has a very refined pitching motion, good mechanics, a smooth and balanced delivery. Slenderly built, he generates most his velocity from a strong leg drive and extremely quick arm action. He sometimes struggles with pitch efficiency leading to high pitch counts early in games. A strike out pitcher with the ability to dominate, Kazmir was among the minor league leaders in K/IP last season.
Other Aspects
Kazmir is a good athlete but size will be a concern for durability issues however thus far he has yet to experience any serious injury. A prep star, Kazmir broke Josh Beckett‘s Texas HS league strike out records. He is widely regarded as one of the best prospects in baseball.
Repertoire
Fastball 93-95 at times hitting 97-98 with great movement; slider 81-84 sharp break - a strike out pitch; inconsistent curveball - too much velocity; developing change up - big league pitch with plus potential. At times can be erratic but control is there.
