The Mets signed Reyes to a minor league contract prior to the 2008 season. He was originally signed by the Cleveland Indians as an international free agent in January 2001. He spent 2007 in Double-A, batting .278 in 125 games. Reyes is a native of Santiago, Dominican Republic. He was non-tendered on December 12, 2008, but re-signed to a minor league deal a month later.
