The Mets signed Ambres to a minor league contract on December 19, 2006. He was originally drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 1st round (27th overall) of the 1998 amateur draft out of West Brook High School in Beaumont, Texas. Ambres appeared in the major leagues for the Royals in 2005. He appeared in just 56 games last season for Triple-A Omaha, hitting just .203. In 2007, Ambres played for the Mets AAA team, and was called up to play in three games in the Majors. At the end of the 2007 season he was designated a free agent and picked up by the Padres. He was reacquired from the Red Sox on June 10, 2009.
