Marte is from San Cristobal, Dominican Republic and is a product of the Dominican Summer League team. He split time between Kingsport and the Gulf Coast squad in 2004. After being converted from a starter to a closer in 2005, Marte dominated the Appalachian League, posting a 0.95 WHIP and fanning 11.02 hitters per 9 innings. He missed the 2009 season to injury.
