Lastings Milledge :: OF last edit: 11/30/07 by: sluger11787 2006 - 2007 | B: R | T: R | HT: 6-1 | WT: 205 | DOB: 4/5/85
Milledge was the Mets 1st round pick (12th overall) of the 2003 amateur draft. The Lakewood Ranch HS product is considered to be a five-tool talent and the Mets best outfield prospect. Baseball America ranked him as the No.1 prospect in the Mets organization for 2004. He was also given the award for Best Athlete and Best Defensive Outfielder for 2004. Played in the Arizona Fall League in 2005. It was a banner year for Milledge in 2005 as BA awarded him the award for No.1 prospect in the organization for the 2nd year in a row. He also earned the Best Hitter for Average, Best Athlete and Best Defensive OF awards as well. Milledge quickly moved through each level, contributing with both his bat and his speed. In 2006, Milledge was the youngest player in the Major Leagues when he was called up to the Mets. Lastings Milledge is a native of Bradenton, Florida. Milledge was traded to the Nationals for Brian Schneider and Ryan Church on November 30, 2007.
Hitting
Has the athletic ability to hit leadoff, but may end up down in the order more. He has great power potential and not the ideal plate discipline for a typical leadoff hitter. Has excellent bat speed along with his great power. Could become a consistent .300 hitter with 25+ HR as he develops. Still needs to work on adjusting and recognizing breaking balls.
Running
Milledge is blessed with elite speed. Is considered by some to be the fastest player in the Mets organization, if not in the top 2 or 3. Will probably be able to steal 30+ bases a season from his current leadoff spot. Really there isn‘t a tool that Milledge doesn‘t have elite ability in.
Defense
With his great speed and athleticism it comes as no surprise that Lastings is a very good defensive centerfielder. He has excellent range in the outfield and a solid arm to go along with it. He still needs to work on keeping his focus in the field as he tended to have lapses of concentration during the year.
