The Mets signed Paniagua to a minor league contract in December 2007. He was signed as an international free agent in 2001 by the Boston Red Sox. He spent most of 2007 in High-A ball after reaching Double-A in 2005. He was re-signed for the 2009 season. Paniagua is a native of San Juan, Dominican Republic.
