The Mets selected Murphy with their 13th round selection in the 2006 amateur draft out of Jacksonville University. After being limited in rookie ball because of injury, the Mets have advanced Murphy to the FSL to begin the 2007 season. His success at Binghamton in 2008 led to a quick promotion to the major leagues. Murphy had appeared in several Spring Training games for the Mets and attended their optional mini-camp program the previous winter. He is a native of Jacksonville, Florida.
