The Mets signed Mejia as an international free agent during the summer of 2006. He made his debut in the DSL in 2007. He began 2008 with the GCL Mets but was quickly promoted to Brooklyn. His success led him to a jump to St. Lucie to begin the 2009 season. Mejia is a native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
