Jim Piersall is from Waterbury CT. He was signed by the Boston Red Sox as an amateur free agent in 1948. Jimmy was traded by the Washington Senators to the Mets for Gil Hodges on May 23, 1963. Only with the club for 2 months in 1963, Jimmy Piersall ran the bases backward on June 23, 1963 after hitting the 100th home run of his career off Phillies pitcher Dallas Green. He was released one month later. The movie Fear Strikes Out was based on his story. He later went on to being a White Sox announcer & Chicago sports radio host.
