The Mets selected Smith in the 3rd round of the 2006 amateur draft out of Wright State. Smith was nearly unhittable that summer with the Cyclones and was soon promoted all the way to Double-A Binghamton. The sidearming righty had a strong 2007 Spring Training and made the big league squad, mid-season he was sent back down to AAA. Smith is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. Smith was traded to the Indians on December 10, 2008 as part of a 3-team deal.
