The Mets acquired Maine along with Jorge Julio from the Orioles on January 21, 2006 in exchange for Kris Benson. Maine became a regular in the Mets rotation in 2006 and then gave a standout performance in the 2006 postseason. Maine was the O‘s 6th round selection in the 2002 amateur draft out of UNC-Charlotte. He advanced through the system quickly, making an appearance with Baltimore in 2004. In 2005 he posted a 2-3 mark with a 6.30 ERA in 10 appearances with Baltimore and was 6-11 with a 4.56 ERA with AAA-Ottawa. Maine is a native of Stafford, VA.
