Jon was selected by the Mets in the 7th round (209th overall) of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft. He was drafted out of Defiance High School in Ohio. The Mets were able to sign him early in July and sent him off to the Gulf Coast League affiliate in Port St. Lucie, Fla. In 2006, he was assigned to Hagerstown. He reached Triple-A after a strong performance in the Eastern League in 2008.
