Member of 1986 World Champion Mets. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 42nd round of the 1971 amateur draft. Keith Hernandez was an All-Star first baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals in the early 80s, when they were the Mets nemesis and was traded to the Mets on June 15, 1983 for Neil Allen and Rick Ownbey, . where he became a key cog in the great Mets teams of the mid 80s. He is considered one of the best defensive first baseman to ever play the game, and excelled at playing bunt defense and initiating the 3-6-3 double play. Following the 1989 season he was granted free agency & signed with Cleveland. In recent years, Keith has been calling Mets games from the booth.
