The Mets acquired Castillo from the Minnesota Twins on July 30, 2007 in exchange for Drew Butera and Dustin Martin. Castillo had played with the Florida Marlins from 1996-2005 before being dealt to the Twins. Castillo was re-signed to a four-year contract on November 19, 2007. He is a native of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. Castillo was released on March 18, 2011 with one year remaining on his contract.
